Pakistani journalists mourn yet another colleague

Picture shows members of Khairpur Press Club demonstrating for justice for Ghulam Asghar Khand.

Ghulam Asghar Khand, pictured, a journalist with the Sindhi Daily Sobh in Pakistan, has been attacked and killed in Ahmadpur town of Khairpur district.

Reports from there say a number of men riding motorcycles approached him while he was at his guest house and shot him.  He received at least nine gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital where he died.

Reports say Mr Khand had been reporting on illicit activities in the area. Pakistani journalists’ organisations have condemned the killing of yet another of their colleagues in the region. They said that his elder brother, Mushtaq Ahmed Khand – also a journalist – was also killed during an attack in 2013 in Khairpur town during a political gathering. This latest killing follows the death in May of the Samaa TV repoprter Imtiaz Baig, who was attacked by unidentified men with a baton as he came out of a mosque.
