The President of Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA)-Cameroon HRH Chief Foanyi Nkemayang Paul, Secretary General John Mbah Akuroh, International Secretary Ebenezer Winnyawoko Motale and other members made an impressive outing at the last Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, held in Yaoundé from October 2-10, 2014.
Prior to the Conference, CJA-Cameroon members held two sessions with Communication Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the Secretary General in the Ministry, Technical Adviser No. 1 Felix Zogo and five Directors during which they brainstormed on ways to give the Conference a media boost.
During the meeting, the Minister of Communication enjoined CJA-Cameroon members to ensure the success of the event by diligently contributing in their individual ways to give the delegates a bright picture of the host country Cameroon.
“It’s your thing; it is Anglophone affair first, so you must work very hard to ensure the success of the Conference in your own small way by giving the delegates the right information,” Minister Tchiroma told CJA-Cameroon members in attendance.
Like Chief Foanyi, John Mbah and Ebenezer Motale assured the Minister of their unflinching support and cooperation.
On October 6, 2014, the official opening of the Conference CJA-Cameroon members put up a strong showing. They did not only sell the association to most delegates, they accompanied them on guided tours of the Conference Center, during which they made very important contacts and shared ideas that would later improve relationships.
CJA-Cameroon held brief sessions with Honourable Gene Zwozdesky, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly Hon. Maninder Singh Dhir, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Cayman Islands the Rt. Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly JP, Member of Parliament from Ottawa, Canada Hon. Russ Herbert, Hon. Crispin Blunt, Member of Parliament for Reigate, newly elected Chairperson of the CPA and Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Parliament of Bangladesh. The Rt. Hon. Shirin Sharmin-Chowdburry, India High Commissioner to Nigeria, Chad, Benin and Cameroon H.E. A.R. Ghanashyam, Conference Chair and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Cameroon, Hon. Emilia Monjowa Lifaka. Later in the evening of the opening day, CJA-Cameroon joined several delegates and dignitaries to honour an invitation at the residence of the Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon H.E. Benoit-Peirre Laramee.
The Canadian High Commissioner and wife Ms Christiane Giroux were very delighted by the impressive attendance of guests who ate and wined with them. He said he was overwhelmed by the 60th Commonwealth Conference holding in Cameroon and prayed it ended with important resolutions to help the association. He thanked all and sundry for coming and said it was a wonderful honour for him. To Hon. Lawrence A. MacAulay from Cardigan, Canada it was a wonderful experience visiting Cameroon and making good contacts with friends.
The British High Commissioner to Cameroon H.E. Brian Olley, speaking to CJA-Cameroon team said he was happy with the massive attendance and level of discussions of the delegates. He said the CPA is an association of well meaning nations with a sense of direction and he was confident deliberations will be successful.
ELECAM President Fonkam A’zur, on his part, expressed satisfaction of Cameroon’s hosting of the important event. He said it was a milestone for Cameroon to host such an important event of the Commonwealth.
