HRH Chief Faonyi Nkemayang Paul, President, CJA-Cameroon and Ebenezer Winnyawoko Motale, International Secretary, CJA-Cameroon:
On the historic occasion of the holding of the 60th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Yaounde, Cameroon from October 2-10, 2014, the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA)-Cameroon gladly welcomes the honoured delegates to this important August assembly.
We commend the decision by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to hold this very decisive conference in Cameroon, bordering on core values and principles of the Commonwealth of Nations. The theme of the Conference “Repositioning the Commonwealth for the Post-2015 Development Agenda” undoubtedly paints a people-oriented picture of the conference.
It is our fervent hope that burning issues affecting our nations in the areas of democracy, good governance, corruption, socio-economic issues and laws that infringe on the rights of our people in some member states and impede peaceful co-existence be rigorously addressed.
In this light, it is an inestimable honour and privilege for Cameroon to host the CPA Conference, given the laudable achievements the nation has registered since it joined the “Gentlemen’s Club” in 1995.
We desire to see meaningful change after the conference, where some nations are still limping in the areas of acceptable governance, improved democratic structures, human rights, tackling of repressive laws in an indefatigable move to usher in greater understanding and bilateral cooperation in the true spirit of the Commonwealth.
We wish you far-reaching, frank and successful deliberations.
May God bless you.
