CJA vp wins fellowship to study PTSD

CJA vice president Chris Cobb, a veteran with Canada’s Ottawa Citizen, has been awarded a journalism fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to study Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

PTSD is increasingly recognized as a problem affecting military veterans, but is also gaining recognition as an issue for journalists reporting on or working under conditions of violence.

Chris was invited to speak to the group about the relationship between news media and politicians. He urged them all to encourage a free, professional and well-trained media or risk “information chaos” by untrained citizens with access to social media and little or no sense of journalistic ethics and standards.
