The Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) on June 26th has mourned the loss of Suleiman Bisalla, managing editor of New Telegraph Newspapers in Nigeria.
According to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) a FAJ affiliate, Bisalla was killed in the shopping mall bombing, which happened in Abuja on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. He died alongside 20 other victims of the blast.
“We send our condolences to Bisalla’s family, colleagues and friends. We ask that security agencies in Nigeria to not relent in carrying out their constitutionally prescribed duties of protecting the lives and property of citizens”, Mohamed Garba, FAJ President said.
Garba who is also the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) had led journalists and other sympathizers to the funeral of the deceased. “As we console the Bisalla family, and the families of the other dead victims, we are worried by the almost intractable nature of the insurgency which continues to claim more victims”, Garba added.
The FAJ represents 50,000 journalists in Africa.
