The Bangladesh chapter of Commonwealth Journalist Associations has elected veteran journalist Saleh Choudhury as its new president.
He replaces former Associated Press Bangladesh Bureau Chief Farid Hossain who has taken up a new diplomatic assignment as Minister (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi.
Mr Choudhury had acted as vice president of CJA Bangladesh since its formation in 1997.
He was senior assistant editor and a columnist on the now-defunct Dainik Bangla.
Hassan Shahriar, a former two-term CJA central President, thanked members for electing the veteran journalist. He wished Mr Choudhury good luck in his new post.
Members at the Bangladesh meeting praised the contribution of Farid Hossain. Among those present were Hassan Shahriar, Shyamol Dutta, Bangladesh chapter’s General Secretary and Vice President of CJA International Committee, Osman Gani Mansur, joint secretary of Bangladesh chapter and Executive Member of CJA International Committee, and members of the Bangladesh chapter Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Chapal Bashar, Perveen Ahmed, Subash Chandra Badal, Julhas Alam, Saiful Huda, Saiful Amin and Abdur Rahman Khan.
